Tony winner Len Cariou will headline the world premiere of Broadway and the Bard, an evening of Shakespeare and song. Conceived by Cariou, Barry Kleinbort and Mark Janas, the show is scheduled to play a limited engagement off-Broadway from January 28 through March 6 at Theatre Row’s Lion Theatre. Opening night is set for February 4.
In Broadway and the Bard, Cariou combines Shakespeare and American musical comedy into one rich and diverse tapestry, melding classical soliloquies and sonnets with inventive musical pairings from beloved writers of the Great White Way.
Cariou won the Tony for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and additionally received Tony nods for Applause and A Little Night Music. His other Broadway credits include Nightwatch, Cold Storage, Teddy & Alice, Dance a Little Closer, The Speed of Darkness, The Dinner Party and Proof. On TV Cariou currently stars as Henry Reagan (Tom Selleck's dad) on CBS’ Blue Bloods.
The eighty-minute production will feature direction by Kleinbort, musical direction by Janas, sets by Josh Iocavelli and lights and sound by Matt Berman.
